2023-2024 Scholarship Information

The Iowa Section IFT will be awarding scholarships to students studying food science or closely related fields in the state of Iowa. A description for each of the scholarships is listed below. To be considered for a scholarship, each student is highly encouraged to be a member of the Iowa Section IFT. Attendance at Iowa Section IFT meetings will be taken into consideration for scholarships. 

Scholarship applications are due Tuesday October 31st, 2023!

(1) IOWA SECTION IFT OUTSTANDING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP:  $1000

  • Selection emphasis on IFT participation and student-related activities
  • Scholarship and coursework, career goals, extra-curricular activities, work experience, and letters of recommendation will also be considered.

(1) IOWA SECTION IFT OUTSTANDING GRADUATE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP:  $1000

  • Selection emphasis on IFT participation and student-related activities

  • Description of research for Thesis/Dissertation, scholarship and coursework, career goals, extra-curricular activities, work experience, and letters of recommendation will be considered.

(1-5) IOWA FOOD INDUSTRY SCHOLARSHIP(S): $250 to $1000 each

  • Selection emphasis on IFT participation and student-related activities

  • Scholarship and coursework, career goals, extra-curricular activities, work experience, and letters of recommendation will also be considered.

NOTE: All students (including spring 2024 Graduates) are eligible to apply.

 Required elements for all scholarships:

Student Application Form: Completed Online here. The Application Form includes the following:

  • Resume and Transcript will be uploaded to this form. Please have them accessible when you fill out the form.
    • Resume to include education, experience, published/presented papers, leadership positions held, awards, honors, and scholarships, etc. (resume should not exceed 2 pages unless you are a Ph.D. candidate).
    • College transcript(s): Copy of all college transcripts. An unofficial copy is acceptable.
  • Short answer questions (3): Please answer in the Student Profile Form.
  1. What are your career goals? What do you plan to do after graduation and why?
  2. Please list Iowa Section IFT meetings you have attended while a student at ISU. Which meeting was most meaningful and why?
  3. The purpose of the Iowa Section of IFT is “to support improvement of the food supply and its use through science, technology, and education”. How will an Iowa Section IFT Scholarship enable you to contribute to the Iowa Section purpose?

 Recommendation:

  • All Scholarships only need ONE recommendation from a faculty member or an industry member who has worked with the student. Be sure to kindly request, with plenty of time ahead of the deadline, a recommendation from ONE faculty member or industry member who knows you well. Recommenders must fill out the form here.

Company Interaction:

  • Scholarship recipients are expected to interact with representatives of companies who provide the scholarships.  A thank you letter is always advised soon after receipt of a scholarship. Make sure to let the company representative(s) know how you will be using the scholarship funds. ISU students are expected to attend Iowa Section IFT meetings (virtually/in-person) and interact with company representatives throughout their college career.
